Methods/Documentation

Compiling and integrating datasets into seamless, binational coverage presents challenges. Frequently scale, scope, definition of terms, and methods of data collection differ. Project team members try to preserve the accuracy and associated attributes of each dataset. Established accuracy, content, and symbolization standards ensure the quality and comparability of the datasets.

U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY (USGS) geographers, water resource specialists, geologists, and biologists develop comparable binational coverage and verify the legitimacy of dataset integration. The following essays provide discussions of methods and useful documentation to facilitate interpretation and analysis of data layers in the IMS. Additional information on each layer can be found within the metadata available through the IMS.
