These tables contain information about various health issues within the following counties: Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Kenedy, Starr, Willacy, and Zapata. Data were available for these diseases: Amebiasis, Campylobacteriosis, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis Unspecified, Salmonellosis, Shigellosis.

Population levels, total number of cases, and the number of cases per 100,000 people are presented for the years 1992- 2002. Also, annual averages for the total number of cases, and the number of cases per 100,000, were calculated for the entire span of the available data, as well as the most recent 5 and 10 year blocks.

Colonias and Their Nearest Hospitals by County

These tables display information that relate colonias within Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Starr, Willacy, and Zapata counties with their nearest hospitals. The records are sorted alphabetically by the colonias' names. These were calculated using a GIS script that would measure the distance from one layer's features (colonia boundaries) to a reference layer's features (hospital locations).

It should be noted taht a distance of 0.00 miles indicate a hospital that falls within the colonia's boundaries.

These tables display information that relate colonias within Brooks, Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Starr, Willacy and Zapata counties with their nearest regular public school campuses by grade level and school district. Alternative education facilities, such as disciplinary campuses or charter schools were not included. The records are sorted alphabetically by the colonias' names. These were calculated using a GIS script that would measure the distance from one layer's features (colonia boundaries) to a reference layer's features (school locations).

It should be noted that a distance of 0.00 miles indicate a campus that falls within the colonia's boundaries. Also, some school districts do not contain all the grade levels from EE-12, and this is reflected by the letters n/a, and a blank distance field. Lastly, colonias that straddle school district boundaries will have multiple entries (one for each school district that it intersects).
